Introduction to ASME SEC IX

This course will give attendees an understanding of how procedures are developed to give the optimum range of approval utilising all essential variables.

In addition, you should have picked-up the knowledge to supervise welder and weld procedure approval tests and organize and supervise the necessary laboratory tests.

You will also be able to interpret test results, identify where re-approval is necessary and understand how to complete the required documentation.

Objectives

The program provides an introduction to ASME Section IX code systems. Focusing-on, for those who need to refer with an understanding on:

  • How to find information in the code
  • How to interpret requirements for qualifying welding procedures and welders
  • The relationships between procedure qualifications and production welding allowances
  • Understanding and interpreting various clauses of ASME Sec IX to ensure all relevant clauses are addressed in WPS and PQR.
  • Checking the correctness of the extent of approval
  • A thorough understanding of the code and its language.
  • Reviewing a PQR and WPS for compliance.
  • Ensuring necessary changes are incorporated.
  • An eye for detail.
  • Analytical and logical thinking.
  • Ability to grasp finer details.
