Certified Materials Failure Investigation Practitioner – Level 2
CODE: MFIP2
Materials Failure Investigation is a systematic process of inspecting and analyzing failed or malfunctioning materials or components to uncover the root causes and mechanisms of failure. This thorough investigation aims to prevent similar issues in the future, ensuring safety and reliability in critical industries.
The IMM Certified Materials Failure Investigation Practitioner (MFIP) Training and Certification Program is designed to classify candidates into competency levels based on their knowledge and expertise. The MFIP Level 2 Program focuses on training and assessing candidates with experience in supporting Materials Failure Investigations, including sample collection and testing, while providing specialized training in this critical field.
Objectives
Learn to identify and analyze common failure mechanisms in metals and alloys used across the oil & gas, petrochemical, and shipbuilding industries. Develop a deep understanding of critical engineering material requirements essential for the safe design, construction, and installation of pressurized components, pipelines, and structures. Master Fitness-for-Service (FFS) concepts to effectively evaluate in-service degradation of pressure-containing equipment and components. Gain hands-on expertise in supporting Materials Failure Investigations through comprehensive training in sample collection and testing, specifically tailored for industry professionals.
Course Contents
- Learn to determine when, where, and how failures occur in industrial materials and components.
- Master techniques for sample collection, on-site photography, and non-destructive defect identification for failure analysis.
- Conduct precise chemical analyses to confirm material composition and identify contaminants using advanced methods like EDS analysis.
- Explore detailed fractography and metallography to understand failure characteristics.
- Perform appropriate mechanical and material testing to evaluate failure causes and mechanisms.
- Identify failure types and ensure alignment with relevant design, inspection, and assessment codes.
- Understand the sequence of materials failure investigation and apply proven assessment techniques.
- Gain insights from case studies on industrial damage mechanisms, including real-world applications in failure analysis.
Duration
3 Days (2 Days Training + 1 Day Assessment)
Who Should Attend
Ideal for school-leavers, technicians, laboratory personnel, and individuals involved in Materials Failure Investigation and testing activities. This program equips participants with essential skills and knowledge for advancing their careers in failure analysis and testing.
